After the initial shock of being sentenced to 34 months in prison, I was allowed to turn around and give my wife one last hug before being cuffed and led out of the courtroom to the county jail. I’ve been here before. This is the same place I was when they arrested me back in August. I cannot believe I am back in this horrible, demeaning place again. I sit here knowing this time that there is no release in my future, I don’t just get to go home in a few hours, I’m here for a long, long time. I had said that I was never going to do anything to put myself back in this place, and yet here I am. Clearly, I was wrong. What good was hiring an attorney and spending nearly $20k in fees?
Maybe I’m lucky and I could be looking at three consecutive sentences instead of having them run concurrent. Maybe this is all just a dream and I’ll wake up in the arms of my wife if I just fall asleep long enough.
After the basics, I was finger-printed and photos were taken. I was then stripped down and given gray and blue striped pants which were too large and an orange shirt. No underwear. I have a ring on my right hand that I cannot get off and so I’m stuck in what they call “AG SEG.” Basically a segregated, one-man cell that is located in downtown Olathe instead of being with the general population at the New Century facility.
