I’ve got a cellmate or “bunkie” now. Interesting enough, it’s the guy I rode down with from New Century to El Dorado. We’ll call him John for now. We gathered what little they give you, which included a bar of soap, toothpaste, a tooth brush, two towels, the red jumpsuit you’re wearing an extra t-shirt and boxers. You also are given a folder and booklet that lists the rules for inmates.
John is a nice enough guy and is friendly. He does seem to like to talk a lot, but for now I’ll take it as I’ve basically had nobody to talk to for the last couple weeks. Being alone is not great after awhile, and this comes from someone who was an only child and doesn’t mind the time to myself. I’ll just have to wait and see how it goes with him and see how soon he gets moved along to another cell or moves to another facility.
We’ve talked very briefly about where we’re from and places we both knew. Still not comfortable to talk about my crime and so when it comes up I usually try to change the subject or stick to how frustrated I am with the sentence and not get into the details. I’m not sure what someone will do if they find out I’m a sex offender and I’m more than a little worried about finding out.
